Section 5: Canonical Statistics

As described in section 1, canonical ensemble can be expected for the moelcules in their thermal equilibrium.   In the canonical ensemble, the thermodynamic functions and the rate constants for the reactions can be described in terms of partition function, in other words, the canonical (or Boltzmann) average of the density of states.
In this section, the application for the chemical equilibrium, thermodynamic functions, and thermal rate constants (transition state theory) will be discussed.

Keywords

Statistical thermodynamics, Ensemble partition function, Equilibrium constant, Transition state theory (TST)
